The ABC are re-vamping their Thursday nights with the introduction of “Bogan Date Night” on August 15, bringing in two brand new Aussie comedies back-to-back.

At 9pm they kick off with Upper Middle Bogan, the story of a posh lady who finds out she was adopted and her real parents are bogans. Made by Robyn Butler and Wayne Hope, the team behind The Librarians and Very Small Business, and starring Annie Maynard, Glenn Robbin and Michala Banas amongst others, this is one that’s going to get gloriously awkward.

At 9.30 comes It’s A Date, creator/writer Peter Helliar’s pet project crammed with champions of Australian comedy and television including Asher Keddie, Stephen Curry, Kate Ritchie, Ross Noble, John Wood, Lisa McCune, Denise Scott, Ryan Shelton, Shane Jacobson, Lawrence Mooney, Jess Harris, Peter Rowsthorn, Ronny Chieng, Luke McGregor and Pete himself. No joke, the cast sits at 26 household names.

The show explores the world of dating and answers all those questions that pop up while on the search for true love. Each new episode features a different cast tackling a different set of situations and addressing a new question each week. Should you have sex on a first date? Does age matter? How accurate are first impressions? How important is honesty on a first date?

All questions that have been asked for generations, yet we’ve had to wait until now to find answers.

Bogan Date Night starts August 15 at 9pm on ABC1.
